ALEXANDRITE, PRECIOUS STONE OF THE MONTH OF JUNE
The Gem of the month of June is Alexandrite, a variety of chrysoberyl.
In 1833 it was first discovered in the emerald mines of the Ural mountains.
When it was extracted it was given as a gift to the future Tsar Alexander of Russia, from whom it took its name. Despite being little known, it is one of the most sought after gems in the world of high jewelery.
Its peculiarity is linked to its color shades that tend to green when exposed to sunlight, while they approach red-purple when illuminated by an incandescent lamp. Due to its unmistakable beauty, hardness and rarity it is one of the most expensive stones on the market and its price increases the more the iridescence is visible.
Few people know it, but the 45 years of marriage are called the "Alexandrite wedding", this again underlines its value. It is believed to bode well for the wearer's health, prosperity and fame. It also helps in making bold decisions and protects against adverse circumstances. Wearing the alexandrite stone can prevent the onset of diseases of the pancreas and spleen; it gives hope by giving awareness of the many possibilities that are available.
