“Multiversi”, Daverio sculptures and jewels on display in Bergamo

Multiversi, “Multiversi”, Daverio sculptures and jewels on show in Bergamo

Creativity and eclecticism in painting and sculpture are the central themes of the exhibition “Multiverses”, inaugurated on 3 December last at the Ceribelli Gallery of Bergamo, where it can be visited until 11 February 2023. The exhibition is in fact made up of a section, called "Aequilibrium", dedicated to the painter Roberto Giavarini, where almost twenty-five of his unpublished paintings are exhibited, and of another which is entitled "I Daverio - Sidereum" and which presents more than forty works, including jewels and sculptures, by the sculptors and jewel designers of the Daverio family.

Two artists from Bergamo between painting and sculpture

For the first time, Galleria Ceribelli has brought together in a single exhibition two artists who share, explains the Gallery, not only their place of origin, both being from Bergamo, but also their "care, at times almost obsessive, towards their works ”. “It is essential to stop and reflect, moreover ̶ continues the presentation of “Multiverses”     ̶ on how much the element of light influences for each of the two artists and on their creations, a reason of primary importance in the choice to unite them in a single exhibition space”.

Roberto Giavarini is considered an eclectic painter, engaged in innovative research on techniques and materials: his works combine ancient techniques such as engraving with unusual procedures in painting, such as rotating blades or chemical materials.

The Daverios, on the other hand, are an entire family of sculptors and jewelery designers: Franco, the progenitor, his son Luca and his nephew Pablo. Their creations, writes the Ceribelli Gallery, are “a perfect synthesis between art and tradition, their own style that follows emotions more than fashion. Since 1933 the mastery of the Daverios has been expressed through an original style, modeling metals and gems, which only follows the creative instinct to merge sculpture and jewel into a single one".

The section of the exhibition dedicated to the Daverios is called “Sidereum”, like the new line of jewelry signed by Luca Daverio and previewed in October at the Rome Film Fest. However, the itinerary of the exhibition starts from the works of his father Franco, such as the copper head of a woman and the yellow gold pendant, both embossed and chiseled. Then follow the creations of Luca, the "engraver of signs", as defined by Alba Cappellieri, full professor of jewelery and fashion accessory design at the Milan Polytechnic, who signs the texts of the exhibition catalog together with other experts , including Vittorio Sgarbi.

This is how Alba Cappellieri describes the creative process of Luca Daverio: "Faithful to hand drawing from the outset, like a chiseller who traces fluid lines on paper, he erases and modifies them even by just a few millimetres, day after day, until the drawing finds its ideal form. The teacher also defines "singular and recurring the attraction for imperfect and organic forms and the attention to the search for mechanical solutions aimed at wearability or customization".

“Multiverses” therefore presents the history and evolution of the jewel signed Daverio, from the first works in copper of the 30s up to the recent collections such as "ForEverHugMe", "Ricci" and the last born, "Sidereum”. Luca Daverio's contemporary jewels unite traditional techniques and modern technologies: they are designed in 3D, but always worked entirely by hand, with techniques such as chiselling and embossing, which Luca learned from his father Franco. Alba Cappellieri concludes: “A lively and romantic goldsmith production that expresses itself through traditional metals such as gold or less usual ones such as titanium, which captures the chromatic depths of precious stones and which, with a scrupulous artisan technique, manages to give voice to the material".
